World 2: Gill’s Shrine
Ghido lives in a rather boring cave. There is no treasure and there are only two different monsters. The first monster is a slime named Dark Aspic, which has a weakness to fire. The second monster makes up for a lack of variety in the enemy field. Metamorph randomly changes into various other monsters including: Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, Enchanted Fan (you can learn Aeroga from it), Wyvern, Cait Sith, Elf Toad, Zombie Dragon, and Crew Dust. He is quite a schizophrenic monster. If you fight him enough times you may be the lucky recipient of a Staff of Light. It doesn’t do anything fantastic except raise mpwr by 2, but it’s a rare drop and you can only steal it from one other boss. So if you’re bored and looking to collect all the weapons you may end up fighting quite a few Metamorphs. The good news is he’s worth 3 abp.
Unfortunately you have to wander through the cave to progress with the story so, march. In the second room you’re confronted with what appears to be five empty treasure chests and one that has not yet been defiled. Oddly enough that chest contains a big rock that you have to place into the empty chests to open the doors to the north of the room.
Place the rock in the top left chest first. Enter the newly opened door. Inside you’ll see a lever begging to be pressed. Press it and watch in wonder as a wall slides up above you. Exit.
Ignore the top right chest. It leads to a dead end. Similarly ignore the bottom right chest. Those chests also lead to dead ends. Place your rock in the bottom left chest to continue towards the sage and continue through the next room to what appears to be a dead end.
The bottom left corner of the room has a cleverly disguised passageway that leads to a switch. Press the switch and voila! A stairway emerges from the stone in the center of the room. Descend the stairs and wander to the west and then south down a narrow passage. Continue east and enter the next room.
It looks like another dead end. Like all the seeming dead ends you’ve encountered, looks can be deceiving. Jump onto the turtle in the pool and emerge in a large cavern with another (the same?) turtle. You learn, only after Bartz heckles the poor animal, that the turtle is actually Sage Ghido. He imparts his knowledge about Exdeath—that he’s on his way to his birthplace the Great Forest of Moore, gives you a Guardian Branch and sends you on your way. After you have the stick you can Teleport out of the cave unless you are still trying to get a Light Staff.
Once you’re back on the submarine I suggest you go to theNorthern Lake before continuing to Moore.
