Chain Tower
This section of the X-Zone looks suspiciously like the Lonka Ruins you explored at the end of the first world. It is aptly named in that you must climb up and down an awful lot of chains to maneuver about. So, take a whiff of the pretty floral arrangement surrounding the chain and then put on your thickest gloves and slide down.
You’ve seen many of the lurking monsters before, or at least palette swaps of them. You may tango with my personal favorite: the Hydra. I hoped never to see him again. You should remember him from the Lonka Ruins where he decimated your party. Fortunately you’ve grown and he hasn’t. He’s still reflected, and still casts L.4 Qrtr upon expiration, but his 3,000 hp should look paltry now. Yes, you can try learning L.4 Qrtr this time. Of course you may just want to hold out for a LevelCheck to cast one of its myriad “Level” spells on you. LevelCheck willingly (and frequently) casts L.2 Old, L.3 Flare, L4 Qrtr, and L.5 Doom. DoomDealers are another source of irritation. They frequently cast the blue magic Roulette, which sometimes works out in your favor and sometimes just kills a party member. If you have a chance, you can control them and force them to cast Life2 on a fallen comrade. The other two palette swapped monsters use blue magic as well. From the Grenade you can learn Exploder; and from the Bardandels you can learn Aero3. Exit to the next room where the fun begins.
Room 2
The fun, of course, being the treasure hiding in the wings of this nondescript room. Off to your left grab an Ether from the chest and then run around to the right side to claim a Cabin that you won’t be able to use for a while yet. Go through the hallway and then collect two more treasures: on the left an Elixir, and on the right a Dark Matter. Now that you’ve exhausted the rather mundane treasure chests, walk on down the hall.
Room 3
The door brings you to a dizzying series of platforms. Slide down the chains again (do you feel like maybe they should have installed firemen’s poles instead?). Walk all the way to the right. At the cluster of three chains, ride the rightmost first up to another Elixir. Then take the leftmost and exit through the door.
Room 4
Walk up the right path first and release the Drain Sword from its casing. You should have already received one in the Barrier Tower. Will you never find new toys? Exit to the next room, which contains—surprise—more chains. Ride them up, up, up and then continue on to…
Mirage Village
Yes this should all look familiar. Remember that door you couldn’t open? It doesn’t make sense to me, but it dumps you out in this frozen version of Mirage. Everything is exactly where it was back in “the real world” but its citizens are frozen in time. I hope you weren’t trying to get in that last minute shopping before saving the world because it’s not going to happen. Just wander through to the village entrance and exit into the surrounding forest.
