World 1: Torna Canal
After you receive the Canal Key from Zok in Tule Village you can continue on your journey to the rest of the crystal shrines. The waters aren’t safe inside the canal. Be sure to equip your party and adjust your jobs and abilities before you sail through the gates. There is no treasure to loot. It’s a straightforward journey. Just head east until you encounter the boss for this area.
hp: 650Boss Battle: Karlabos
Though he looks like a strange sea scorpion creature, Karlabos is actually a pussycat. He is extremely weak to lightning. A well-cast thunder spell causes about 150 points of damage. He only has 650 hit points. I find that two characters using black magic is plenty. More than that is overkill. If you want to make short work of him, convert all of your characters to black mages. Don’t forget to keep a white mage or two on standby for healing.
Karlabos attacks using the Feeler attack which paralyzes a party member. While any damage hurts, you need to be ready to heal after his Tail Screw attack which drops a party member instantly to single digit hit points.
After driving the creature back to the depths of the ocean you’ll be set adrift. Without Syldra to pull your ship, you are left at the mercy of the tides. They aren’t favorable and you end up in the Ship Graveyard.

I just used a full party of monks. It was a definite overkill. xD

besides using black magic (i have one black mage besides me), i had two monks with me. but if you want to steal something from him, use the Barehanded ability as a second ability for your thief and disregard the dagger as a weapon. you may notice your attack as only 3 but you'll hit as powerful as a monk....

Try to collect many elixiers as you can by defeating monsters, and SAVE them for a later use, you will never imagine how important they will get later in the game.
