Titan is gained after a battle at the meteor.
World 1: Karnak Meteor
Your first stop on the great adamantium hunt is Karnak Meteor. Cid and Mid’s black chocobo somehow beat your blazingly fast airship there. Cid and Mid excitedly enter the meteor while you wait patiently outside. Their mirth is short-lived however, when they run back out to tell you that monsters live inside the meteor. This looks like a job for your party to handle.
hp: 2,500boss battle: Titan
Titan is not terribly difficult. He has no weaknesses to exploit but earth magic will heal him. He doesn’t have a wide range of attacks either. He either hits you for 100-225 hp (depending upon row and armor etc.) or casts the rather nasty Earth Shaker spell. The sumo-like Titan jumps up and down causing an earthquake that slams your entire party for 450-500 points of damage.
Earth Shaker can be nullified, but it takes a bit of planning before the battle. You don’t have the ability to cast Float on your party at this stage of the game. There are beasts that know this spell. You can travel to North Mountain and wander about until you encounter a Gaelicat. Be sure you have someone who can control the cat. While he is controlled have him cast Float on your party members one by one. You can then travel back and fight Titan without fearing his quakes. Though you may get lucky and miss out on Earth Shaker during battle, Titan casts this spell when he dies, so you must either be floated or in good health to survive the battle.
When you defeat Titan you add him to your summoning repertoire so that you too can cause the earth to tremble at your whim.

I just made Bartz a Samurai and used his 'Zaninage' ability and it instantly did 3000 damage to Titan. He takes down one or two of your party members with him when he dies, but it isn't bad.

Three shots of 1000 Needles will down Titan before he has a chance to do much damage.
