There are very few places in the game where the geomancer is necessary. There’s not much lava, and not many traps. His earth magic which is completely random based on the terrain you are fighting on can be more of a hindrance than a help. Often it will cast just the right spell to heal your enemy. The Geomancer does have a nice magic power, so pairing it with another mage skill while leveling it up is a good idea.
