Ah, the mighty Behemoth, one of Final Fantasy's most cherished and feared monsters. As with all other FF games, the Behemoth has his usual high HP and massive physical strength. In keeping with his tendencies from Final Fantasy IV, he also utilizes some strong counter attacks.* Alas, the mighty Behemoth is not as strong in FFV as he is compared to FFIV. He is thus, easily dispatched. By the time you run across him, he can easily be terminated by using rapid fire and your strongest weapons. Magic is ill advised however.* Still, the Behemoth refuses to die like any normal FF monster. No, instead of succumbing to the cold metal on your Ragnarok, the Behemoth unleashes one final roar before dropping dead. This final roar appears in the form of a meteor spell! Thus, until your party's HP is extremely high, make sure to keep your HP at full (and preferably have mighty guard casted) to avoid having anyone die due to a lucky 4 hit meteor combo. *If the normal Behemoth is anything like his father, the King, he will cast a nasty dosage of Meteor whenever you use magic on him. Suffice to say, unless you have a LOT of HP, stick to physical attacks. And yes, one last thing - the monster of monsters is part of a small quest in the Sealed Temple. All you have to do is manage to !capture one of these purple monstrosities. Just manage to do ~14000 HP without actually killing him, and you will have your pet Behemoth. Side note: Isn't it a little strange that the REGULAR Bethemoth is exclusive to the Advance version of FFV, yet the King Behemoth (who is slightly stronger) appears in all versions of the game?
